Why mixed-equipment power planning matters

A restoration job can run many air movers, one or more commercial dehumidifiers and an air scrubber at the same time. Looking at each machine independently can hide the total electrical demand. Four 1.1A air movers, two 5.9A dehumidifiers and one 3A air scrubber add up very differently from a fleet built around 5A blowers and larger dehumidifiers.

This calculator gives one place to total those nameplate-style planning loads without pretending that the arithmetic decides the actual circuit layout.

How catalog amp values are chosen

The normalized Restoration Select catalog stores rated, minimum and maximum amps separately when manufacturers publish them. For planning, this calculator uses the rated amp value first. If rated amps are unavailable but a maximum published amp value exists, it uses that maximum. It does not use a lower minimum-speed value when a higher planning value is available.

For example, a variable-speed product can publish an amp range. Using only its low-speed draw would understate the possible load. The result therefore labels the basis so the visitor can see whether the number came from rated amps, maximum published amps or a voltage/watt conversion.

Watts are estimated only when the inputs support the conversion

Many restoration-equipment manufacturers publish amps more consistently than watts. When the exact record has amps but no watts, the calculator can estimate nameplate-style watts if you supply voltage:

Estimated watts = voltage × amps.

If a custom or catalog load has watts but no usable amp value, the reverse estimate is:

Estimated amps = watts ÷ voltage.

These conversions are planning arithmetic. They do not account for power factor, motor starting behavior or measured energy use, so the result is not labeled as actual consumption.

No voltage is silently assumed

Although much of the current portable restoration catalog is designed around common North American jobsite power, the tool does not silently insert 120V. If the equipment already has a published amp value, amp totals can be calculated without voltage. Voltage is needed only when you want the calculator to convert between amps and watts.

What the per-circuit planning limit does

If you enter a planning amp limit per circuit, the calculator divides the combined known amp load by that limit and rounds up. That produces an arithmetic minimum number of circuits if the loads could be distributed evenly within the limit you entered.

For example, 28A of summed equipment load against a 12A planning limit produces 28 ÷ 12 = 2.33, or three circuits by arithmetic. That does not prove that any particular combination of machines belongs together on those circuits.

What changes when you enter the number of circuits available

After you enter a per-circuit planning limit, an optional circuit-count field appears. The calculator multiplies the two values to show total arithmetic planning capacity, then compares that capacity with the summed equipment amps.

A positive difference is labeled planning headroom; a negative difference is labeled a shortfall. Neither result is a safety margin or code determination. It is simply a way to compare the load list with the limits you supplied.

Why exact model selection is useful

Different restoration machines can have dramatically different electrical demands even within the same category. Phoenix Focus II currently normalizes to 1.1A, while XPOWER P-630HC normalizes to 5A. AlorAir Storm LGR 850X is 5.9A. Dri-Eaz HEPA 700 uses a maximum published planning value of 3A because its current record contains an amp range rather than one rated value.

Selecting the exact model avoids replacing those differences with one generic “air mover amps” or “dehumidifier amps” assumption.

Custom loads keep the calculator useful outside the catalog

Choose Custom equipment load when the exact machine is not in Restoration Select. Enter amps, watts or both from the documentation you have. If only watts are entered, voltage is required before an amp estimate can be produced. If only amps are entered, voltage is required before estimated watts can be produced.

Missing custom values remain unknown rather than becoming zero.

Daisy-chain limits are not replaced by this calculator

An air mover or air scrubber may include an onboard convenience outlet and a manufacturer-published maximum number of connected units. That information still applies. A summed amp total does not authorize a longer daisy chain, and a daisy-chain rating does not prove that other equipment may share the same circuit.
