Commercial Air Movers: CFM, Amps, Form Factor & Selection
Commercial air movers are built to move large volumes of air through restoration, cleaning and jobsite environments, but the biggest CFM number is not automatically the best choice. A useful comparison also looks at form factor, amp draw, operating positions, daisy-chain capability, stackability, transport weight and job-specific accessories such as carpet clamps or wall-mount options.
Start with the airflow job, not the fan label
“Air mover,” “restoration fan,” “floor dryer” and “blower” can describe equipment with very different airflow patterns. A low-profile unit may be designed to spread air across a floor while staying easy to stack. An axial unit can move a large volume of air through an open area or toward walls and ceilings. A centrifugal blower can offer concentrated discharge and several fixed angles for carpet, wall or floor drying.
The useful selection question is therefore not “which model has the most CFM?” but “which airflow pattern, position, electrical load and handling format fits the work?”

The table shows why CFM should stay beside amp draw and form factor. Phoenix Focus II publishes 1,015 CFM at only 1.1A in a 15.5 lb chassis, while XPOWER P-630HC publishes nearly three times the airflow but draws 5A and uses a different centrifugal format. Both can be useful commercial tools without being interchangeable.
Low-profile air movers emphasize floor coverage and fleet handling
Low-profile units sit close to the surface and are common in restoration fleets because they are easy to place, stack and transport. Dri-Eaz Velo Pro publishes 500–885 CFM with 1.2–1.9A variable power draw and five operating positions. XPOWER PL-700A publishes 1,050 CFM, three speeds and a 2.8A draw. Phoenix AirMAX publishes 925 CFM at 1.9A.
The difference is not just airflow. Velo Pro lets the operator balance speed and amp draw; PL-700A emphasizes a compact stackable form with onboard outlets; AirMAX combines a radial low-profile design with multiple stable positions.
Axial air movers can deliver high airflow with different aiming options
Phoenix Focus II uses a compact dual-axial design and publishes 1,015 CFM at 1.1A. Dri-Eaz Stealth AV3000 is a much larger axial approach at 2,600 CFM and 2.7A with a pivoting stand. BlueDri MA-870 publishes 870 CFM at 1.6A with a pivoting stand and wall-mount option.
Those designs serve different spaces. A compact low-amp axial unit can be easy to distribute through a property, while a larger long-throw axial machine can be useful where directional open-area airflow matters.
Centrifugal blowers can add concentrated airflow and carpet features
Dri-Eaz Sahara Pro X4 and XPOWER P-630HC represent a more traditional centrifugal blower format. Sahara Pro X4 publishes three positions, 867 CFM maximum airflow, a carpet clamp and a 1.9–2.5A operating range. P-630HC publishes 2,980 CFM, four operating angles, a carpet clamp and a wheeled telescoping handle.
A centrifugal machine may be attractive for carpet, stair, wall or focused-surface work even when a lower-profile unit is easier to stack through a large fleet.
CFM and static pressure answer different questions
Free-air CFM describes airflow volume under the manufacturer's test setup. Static pressure describes the fan's ability to maintain airflow against resistance and is not published consistently across every air mover in the current catalog. Dri-Eaz currently publishes 1.65 in. H₂O static pressure for Velo/Velo Pro and 0.40 in. H₂O for Stealth AV3000.
Restoration Select does not turn missing static-pressure data into zero or assume two machines with similar CFM behave identically at the surface.
Electrical efficiency changes how many machines are practical on a job
Air movers are often deployed in groups, so per-unit amperage adds up quickly. Phoenix Focus II publishes 1.1A and the manufacturer documents daisy chaining up to 10 units on one 15A circuit. Dri-Eaz Velo Pro publishes 1.2–1.9A and up to 10 units under its published circuit guidance. Higher-draw models such as XPOWER P-630HC can still be useful, but fewer units fit within the same electrical envelope.
Manufacturer daisy-chain limits are product-specific. They are not a substitute for checking the actual circuit, other connected loads and the equipment instructions.
Transport and stacking are real commercial costs
A restoration fleet may move dozens of machines between trucks, stairs and job areas. Weight, nested stacking, handles, cord storage and chassis dimensions therefore affect labor even though they do not change airflow. Dri-Eaz Dri-Pod is only 10.5 lb, Phoenix Focus II 15.5 lb and BlueDri MA-870 16.5 lb, while larger directional machines such as Stealth AV3000 are heavier but offer a different airflow role.
Commercial selection is broader than water-damage drying
Air movers are also used for carpet cleaning, floor drying, construction, ventilation and general jobsite air circulation.
